Nissan Navara Pickup Crash Test Communications Support

Paris - February 2008. Media in English trainers Rudi Goldman & Gisele Burnett provided crisis communications assistance and media training for European company spokespersons after Nissan's top selling Navara pickup truck received a poor Euro NCAP crash test rating.

The Euro NCAP organisation moved faster than expected to publish revised crash test figures following the 2008 Nissan Navara's initial poor results. A software update was introduced in December 2007, when the problem of slow air-bag deployment was identified. The revised results give the Navara three stars for adult occupant protection and four for child occupant protection.

Euro NCAP head, Michiel van Ratingen, said: "Nissan has acted responsibly and promptly in response to our findings." A Nissan spokeswoman points out that 130,000 Navaras, including 7,000 2008 models in the UK, have been sold with no incidents reported, and that it is the only model in the segment to offer side air bags.
